Many merchants are so focused on winning a sale — getting a customer to click “Buy” — that they don’t realize a transaction is not over when a browser has converted into a buyer. Not only are there multiple steps going on behind the scenes to successfully process a customer’s payment, but a sale is never truly won until the chargeback window has closed and the customer is satisfied with their purchase.

The more educated eCommerce retailers are about the payment process, the better prepared they will be to make sure every fraudulent order gets declined and every legitimate order gets approved. When this goes wrong, fraudulent orders turn into chargebacks, and legitimate orders can be falsely declined – both of which hurt the retailer’s revenue and aggravate the good customers.

Sage 100 TLS 1.2. PCI Compliance

Our Sage 100 credit card processing integrations team works diligently to help keep our merchants’ data safe. For Sage 100 merchant processors, this means we need to ensure all our customers are following the PCI-DSS Regulations. On June 30th 2018, TLS 1.0, SSL V3 will no longer be a PCI approved method of running transactions. To maintain PCI Compliance, payment processors and gateway providers are removing security certificates, which will disable older versions of Sage 100 legacy software using this legacy encryption method. This means processing this way will not be considered PCI Compliant, and all transactions will stop working eventually.

APS Supports TLS 1.2 in Sage 100 4.4, 4.5 and Subsequent Versions!

According to posts on the internet and information gleaned from our Channel Partner Network it would appear that on May 2nd, 2018 Sage 100 versions 4.5 and prior, formerly MAS 90 and MAS 200, could no longer process credit cards through Paya, formerly, Sage Payment Solutions.  Most companies on these versions of Sage 100 mentioned they had a processing blackout for over 24 hours, some even longer.  It is currently unclear whether the companies using these versions have abruptly been forced to stop processing or whether they will be forced to stop processing as of June 30, 2018 the last day the card brands will allow transactions to flow on any TLS lower than TLS 1.2.

2018: Data Breaches Hit Record High Costs for SMBs

New research from Kaspersky Lab shows that the average cost to small-to-medium sizes businesses in the United States and Canada has reached record highs.

The company found that data breaches now exceed $140,000 for SMBs (up 36% from 2017). Most of the cost comes from the need to quickly upgrade infrastructure and software, but there are hefty fines if the data that was compromised included credit card data. For enterprise companies, the costs are even greater, with the average data breach cost being $1.75 million on average.

PC Charge PCI Compliance: Are you at risk?

PC Charge has now been unsupported for over 2 years, and yet certain companies have still been using PC Charge to process cards through their accounting software. On April 6th, 2015, Verifone announced they will no longer support their credit card application PC Charge. Many companies have continued to use this software, since they have heavily customized their ERP system. Newer versions of ERPs and payment integrations have better security features and protocols (Hint: APS!) that are PCI Compliant.

PC Charge, a server-based credit card processing middleware, is installed on a business’ local server to process credit card and store information on-site. Even though PC Charge has stopped working for most merchants, several companies have found a way to piece their systems together to keep it running. This, however, will likely come to an end in 2018. Virtual Terminal – Key Benefits and Features

PC Charge Atlernatives

 PC Charge is discontinued middle ware that is no longer supported. It stores credit card information on the local server.  For this reason, it is possible the local server can be hacked, compromising the credit card data.  If you are still using this discontinued solution you should be looking for PC Charge alternatives.
